Carbon brushes transfer current in interaction with rotating commutators or slip rings. They must function perfectly under a wide range of conditions: Reliable contacting and low frictional losses, combined with low mechanical wear, are important for sliding contact. Graphite-containing materials are ideally suited for this purpose and are therefore the first choice for use as carbon brushes and sliding contacts.
