SiC30 is an exclusive material that you can only get from Schunk. It combines the best of two worlds: the strength of SiC and the emergency running properties of graphite. The unique feature of the SiC30 structure is an interpenetrating network of graphite and silicon carbide (relics of the interconnected carbon structure or pore system of electrographite). This unique structure of SiC and graphite makes SiC30 significantly more tolerant than classical hard/hard pairings (SiC/SiC) under difficult tribological applications and helps our customers to push the limits of their design. For example, in the area of pump bearings, where SiC30 is significantly more tolerant to edge running and critical lubrication conditions. This prevents so-called chipping. Such sharp-edged chipping of bearings or seal rings occurs in applications at the limits of the pump and can lead to total loss. Here, SiC30 provides reassuring safety even under extreme conditions. In addition, SiC30 - just like the PrimeCarb^® material pair - is characterized by excellent blister resistance.

Where is SiC30 used?

SiC30 is always used where existing design limits need to be extended and "classic" materials no longer deliver the desired results. The main areas of application are sliding rings and sliding bearings in pumps and compressors.
